Classroom Highlights

Kindergarten - Second Grade

Students in  Kindergarten, First and Second grade continue to practice keyboarding skills by choosing one of several games on www.freetypinggame.net. We have created word webs of computer parts using Idea Mapping in KidPix. Logging on/off, shutting down and opening and saving files are some of the basic Windows skills all students have been learning. Kindergarten and first grade have been identifying fiction and nonfiction books and locating them in the media center. Second graders are using MS Word to type autobiographies, stories, and poems. Our 'Technology Question of the Week' has been a fun contest which helps reinforce technology concepts and vocabulary.

Third - Fifth Grade

Students in grades three through five have been creating presentations using KidPix and PowerPoint. The fourth graders just completed creating and presenting their 'All About Me' slide shows. Students learned how to format slides using backgrounds, transitions, and animations. Fifth graders explored the subject of slavery and the Underground Railroad by doing a web quest on Harriet Tubman. Using MS Word, students created posters of the planets by inserting, formatting, and modifying text boxes. All grades will continue to work on building Excel skills by gathering information from various sources and entering data into a spreadsheet.

Sixth - Eight Grade

Eighth graders explored and compared interesting careers and presented their findings in PowerPoint presentations. We have been working on reinforcing spreadsheet skills, including working with formulas, by entering data in Excel and creating charts including bar, pie, and column. The seventh graders have been researching the Olympic Games and creating tri-fold brochures to present the information. Next, they will be researching US presidents and present their findings using MS PowerPoint. Web Quests and Internet Scavenger Hunts will be used to reinforce research skills. All students continue to practice keyboarding skills and chart their results in Excel.
