Welcome to the 2009-2010 school year at Hope Township School! I would like to take this opportunity to introduce our new faculty member. *********************************************************************** Schaefer Strikes a Musical
Chord at Hope Township School HOPE
TOWNSHIP SCHOOL - Steve Schaefer has
been hired by the Hope Township Board of Education as the music teacher for the
Pre-K-8 school. Schaefer, also a
part-time musician and teacher of private music lessons, comes to Hope with an
enthusiasm for what he enjoys most about music and the teaching profession. “Music can inspire students to learn. I believe everyone can learn to play music at some level if
they put forth the effort and acquire correct study/practice habits.
From this, I think it shows students that this applies to anything in
life.” Schaefer, who studied classical guitar at The College of New Jersey and The University of Salamanca in Spain, has performed many different styles of music including classical, jazz, blues, theater, and even dabbles with his own rock band. His instruments of choice are the guitar, bass, and violin but he adds that he can “pretty much play any instrument”. With the Hope Students, Schaefer will incorporate hand bells, choir and band to general music education. He is also a proponent of bringing music technology to the students. “The music industry is extremely impacted by technology and it’s important that students understand how technology has changed musical instruments, recording, distribution of music, and the music business in general. Schaefer came to Hope School from the Valleyview Middle School in Denville. He, his wife Lyndsey and their two cats live in Flemington. When not teaching, Schaefer performs with “The Fuse” throughout New Jersey and with singer-songwriter Stephen Lyons around the New York and Philadelphia area. ***********************************************************************
