Here are a few helpful hints to help your child succeed in school: Fine Motor Skills: Practice cutting at home-have your child cut shapes and lines. Coloring helps aide in your child’s handwriting success! Lacing cards are great-you can find them at Wal-Mart or a teaching store! Clothes pins and tongs-have your child use a clothes pin to pick up cotton balls or pom poms. Large Motor Skills: Climbing, jumping and running Painting or writing on an easel. Playing "catch", soccer and basketball.
Reading Readiness: Labeling household items: door, window, chair, desk, etc. Reading with your child-show them which side to start reading on-"we read from left to right" Look for letters around the house, neighborhood, etc. Encourage your child to write and tell stories-remember that the words do not need to be spelled correctly at this stage in development.
