We will continue with our unit of study, Traditional Literature. The children will be reading various types of stories inclusive of folktales, fables, myths, and legends. They will learn that these genres have common literary elemenets that tie them together, that they have common themes which reflect the shared needs and desires of people around the world, and that writers can convey morals and lessons through the writing of traditional literature.

The students will be writing opinion pieces and using reasons to support their point of view.

We will begin our next chapter of study, "Time, Length, Liquid Volume, and Mass. This chapter contains lessons on measuring and using time intervals, measuring length, estimating and measuring liquid volume, and estimating and measuring mass.

Please help your child practice his/her math facts in order to increase fluency!

We will continue with our unit of study, Government. The children will come to understand that members of the (local) government are elected by and serve the needs of the community.  They will also look into how the political system is strucured.

Traits will be our next area of study. Overall, the children will learn that plant and animal traits contribute to their well-being. They will work to describe how different organisms vary in how they look and function due to different inherited information.



Although we are trying to foster independence in the children, please be sure to check your child's backpack and folder daily in order to keep abreast of his/her studies.
