We will begin our next unit of study, Information in Nonfiction Text. The students will come to understand that informational text conveys information/facts about the natural and social world as well as history. They will recognize that readers know how to focus their thinking around the important information in a text in order to understand the main idea and that writers know how to summarize the main idea of informationl text supported with key details. These concepts will carry over into their writing an informational essay on a topic they are "experts" on.
We will begin the chapter, Multiplication Facts and Strategies. The students will learn to multiply by 2s, 3s, 4s, 5s, 6s, 7s, 8s, 9s, and 10s. In addition, they will use the Distributive Property to find products and the Associative Property to multiply with three factors.
Please help your child practice his/her math facts in order to increase fluency!
We will continue our study of Community and Cultures. The children will come to understand that citizens have a responsibility to their communities and to the global community. We will work together to answer questions such as; What defines community?, How does our community fit into the global community?, and How are communities started? The children will also be researching harvest festivals in various countries.
Our next unit of study will be Force and Motion. The students will be able to determine the effects of balanced and unbalanced forces on the motion of an object. They will come to understand the terms force, gravity, friction, and speed.
Although we are trying to foster independence in the children, please be sure to check your child's backpack and folder daily in order to keep abreast of his/her studies.
Please send in tissues and wipes if you are able!
Don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions/concerns, and thank you for guiding your child on his/her educational journey!
