Dear Parents & Guardians:

The Elementary and Secondary Education Act is our country’s most important education law. In 2002 this law was revised and is now called The No Child Left Behind Act. No Child Left Behind (NCLB) was designed to make changes in teaching and learning that will help our students achieve more in school.

The law requires that all schools receiving federal Title I funds must inform parents of their right to ask schools about the qualifications of their child’s teachers. Although Hope School does not receive federal Title I funds which support the NCLB act, we are happy to share this information with you.

We believe educational research reinforces what we all know; good teachers make a positive difference. Quality teachers are those who have a strong knowledge base to teach their assigned subject area(s) and the training and preparation in age appropriate teaching or pedagogy. In New Jersey and in Hope Township, all teachers must demonstrate that they possess this knowledge and training in order to be fully certified and employed.

New Jersey has some of the most qualified teachers in the country and we are extremely proud of the quality of the teaching staff in the Hope Township School. All of our teachers have college degrees and many have advanced degrees. All Hope School teachers have one or more teaching certificates. In addition, every teacher continues his/her own learning through professional development activities and our teachers are evaluated each year to make sure that their teaching skills remain at the highest possible level. All of out teachers at Hope Township School who work in the designated subject areas are regarded as Highly Qualified under NCLB and the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE). The federal Title II, Part A funds we do receive help provide professional development for our teachers who, in turn, pass on new ideas and information they learn to your child/children.

I encourage you to support your child’s education and communicate with his or her teacher on a regular basis. By participating together, our families and educators can provide our children with the best possible education. For more information on NCLB and the role of Title I parents, visit the United States Department of Education web site at www.ed.gov/nclb or our NJDOE web site at www.state.nj.us/education .

Very truly yours,

Alfred J. Annunziata
