THE EXCITING YEAR AHEAD IN MUSIC CLASS:

Music Classes, Grades K-4

      Singing! Training in proper vocal technique

      Identification and use of musical instruments (classroom instruments)

      Listening and movement activities

      Understanding basic music vocabulary

      Identifying and drawing basic music symbols

      Identifying different styles and forms of music

      **Get ready to learn the recorder in third grade and beginner band (Concert Band) is offered to fourth grade students!**

School Performances:  Attendance is mandatory!

Grades K-4: Each grade performs at two concerts during the school year. 

Music Classes, Grade 5-8

      Performance and training in more complex songs and vocal techniques

      Identification and use of musical instruments

      Understanding and utilizing more complex music vocabulary

      Identifying and writing more complex music symbols and music notation

      Composing a melody, harmony, and/or rhythm

      Identify the important periods, styles, and composers of music history

      **Chorus and Band are offered to students in the fifth through eighth grades**

      **Handbell choir is offered to students in the seventh and eighth grades**

 

School Performances:        

Grades 5-8: Students are offered performance opportunities only through Chorus, Band, and/or Handbell Choir.Every student does get a grade in music which will be based on Preparation/Homework, Tests and Quizzes, and Participation/Effort.  Come to music ready to work hard and learn a great deal!

One of the best ways for students to learn music is by performing and experiencing the music for themselves.  Please help your child to get the most out of his or her musical experience by encouraging home practice and performances as well as attending concerts.

Choral Activities:   Handbook

Chorale is offered to students in grades five and six interested in performing at school concerts and community events. 

Choir is offered to students in grades seven and eight interested in performing at school concerts and community events. 

Band Activities:

Tyro Band:  Handbook

Tyro Band is offered to any student in grades four through eight interested in learning how to play a band instrument. 

Symphonic Band: Handbook

Symphonic Band is offered to students in grades five through eight interested in performing at school concerts and community events.  Students are required to have at least one year of experience at playing a band instrument.  Students should be able to perform the Concert B-flat scale and perform rhythms composed of whole, half, quarter, and eighth notes and rests.

Handbell Choir is a performing ensemble offered to students in grades seven and eight interested in performing at school concerts and community events.
